INFORMATION
Mr. Coburn, who joined Weber and Rose in 2004, returned
to his hometown of Louisville in 2001 after fourteen
years on the East Coast – the last six of which
were spent in civil trial practice for an AV-rated
Stamford, Connecticut litigation firm. He received
his B.A. from Northeastern University in 1991 and his
law degree from the University of Connecticut School
of Law in 1995. While practicing in Connecticut, he
was selected to be a Connecticut Bar Examination grader
based upon his performance on the examination. In that
capacity, he constructed model answers and graded individual
essay questions.
Since his return to Louisville, Mr. Coburn has practiced primarily in the area of civil litigation, with an emphasis on medical malpractice defense, insurance defense, products liability defense, and business litigation, and has litigated claims involving air quality issues as they relate to construction. He also provides representation to health care facilities and their employees with regard to miscellaneous litigation matters. In addition, Mr. Coburn has negotiated, drafted and litigated various contracts and business agreements. His reported decisions include Phelps v. Wehr Constructors, Inc., Ky. App., 168 S.W. 3d 395 (2004), rehearing denied and review denied; Wellington Systems, Inc. v. Redding Group, Inc., 49 Conn. App. 152, 714 A.2d 21, cert. denied, 247 Conn. 905, 720 A.2d 516 (1998); Lopiano v. Lopiano, 247 Conn. 356, 752 A.2d 1000 (1998) (which established Connecticut precedent) and Chance v. Norwalk Fast Oil, Inc., 55 Conn. App. 272, 739 A. 2d 1275, cert. denied, 251 Conn. 929, 742 A. 2d 361 (1999). Mr. Coburn has taken or defended depositions in 39 states and Canada, argued countless summary judgments, conducted numerous mediations, arbitrations and evidentiary hearings, argued appeals before the Appellate Courts of Kentucky and Connecticut, and has tried cases–jury and bench - in both Kentucky and Connecticut.
Mr. Coburn is licensed to practice in Kentucky, Connecticut
and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth
Circuit and is a member of the Louisville and Kentucky
Bar Associations. A ballboy on the 1980 University
of Louisville national championship basketball team,
Mr. Coburn remains active in a variety of sports, and plays in a community basketball league. In addition to sports, he enjoys reading and writing in his spare time. Mr. Coburn is also involved with his community swim team, for whom he volunteers and has provided legal assistance. He has also served on his church's stewardship committee.
